A Christmas Sonnet

Alas! The silence was broken
 The darkness was rolled away
Suddenly night was turned to day
Was this the babe of which was spoken

He lowly lay in a manger
Above Him shone an East Star
Guiding the wise men from afar
To a gift from our Creator

The babe who lay in a manger
Through toil grew to be a man
He came to fulfill His Father’s plan
This babe came to be our Savior

This was the babe that was spoken of
A Christmas story to the cross

**Though there may be some controversy over when the birth of Christ was; December 25th is the day set aside for us to celebrate the birth of our Savior. Some would say, "No one really knows the date so, how do you even know that he was born" ? I heard a story about a man who called his mom to wish her a happy birthday. He asked her, "Mom, how many does this make for you"? Her reply, "I don't know. I quit counting years ago". Surely if this could happen in a time when we record everything and in a nation that nothing can be done without a birth certificate, this could certainly happen in a time before A.D. Besides, I get asked all of the time, "How do you know that He exists"? I know that He exists because He has made a difference in my life. That's the Christmas story. He was born only to travel the road to the cross to save a wretch like me! If you don't know the true Christmas story I encourage you to find a friend that does or get to a local church and hear about this Man named Jesus. It is not about a religion, it's about a relationship. Merry Christmas everyone -Dale Griggs

The Angels Weep

The people gathered to sing “Silent Night”,
Their candle wicks were flickering,
Thoughts were racing through their minds,
That left their souls trembling,
In this small town,
Innocence was lost today,
Faces now have grim smiles,
All of their hearts are dismayed,
Angels gathered among them,
They also felt the loss and hurt,
They sang a mourning hymn,
Though they can’t be heard,
The prayers the people pray,
The angels carry to Christ,
At His feet they will lay,
The prayers as tears fill their eyes.

A Revelation

Passing the time
One day
Gazing at the sky
I began to pray
Lord, Lord
If Your coming soon
And great things are in store
Show a sign in the blue
The blue became dark
Clouds rolled by
The sky showed one star
It wasn't night
I received
A revelation that day
The Lord speaks
In mysterious ways

Addiction

He slowly creeps in
Through a small crack
It doesn't seem like sin
When there's no tracks

Slow to build you up
To when it no longer matters
Drinking from a golden cup
At first it's no worse than water

Off and on you go to it
Til it becomes steady
From a little sip
"Now I think your ready"

It grows out of control
To when you can't stop
He takes over your soul
The mind has been robbed

Either Christ will save
You from the never ending urge
Or it goes with you to the grave
To where in the veins it can't surge.

Poetry Contest

There is a new poetry contest coming up. It's pretty exciting for me as someone who loves to write poetry and has studied poetry for several years. The contest requires ten different styles. There are several different styles of poetry out there to choose from. I have chosen my ten styles that I want to write them in. Hopefully I can make this one theme.. maybe we can put it together like a chapbook. Can't wait to here more about the contest.

The Thing It Has Become

Christianity has become
A form of religion
That we look upon
Those who are different
We're quick to condemn
Everyone not in our clique
Shun them because of sin
Yet we gorge til we’re sick
We boast of good tidings
Yet not help others
Can't let go of change
Unless it’s for a so called brother
Ministers who walk with pride
Preach a doctoral message
The things they hide
Are against their own Epistle
Oh but then out of love
All we have to say "Well we’re not Jesus”
Only He can love that way
In our religion
We have become our own stool pigeons
That we can’t overcome
Really no evidence of the Christ we serve
We worship for chance to be seen and heard
Hold our heads high like we have an unattainable treasure
Filled and puffed with pride, pride that can’t be measured
Known for our hate, the things we spew
Shunning others away
We just sit in a pew
The thing Christianity has become
More than the wonderful grace that was given by God
And has become a thing of dis-grace

Last Night I Had A Dream

Last night I had a dream
I looked up to the sky
And it was melting

My eyes were wide
Couldn't make a sound
A feeling came over like a tide

There was no choice
I couldn't turn away
From the booming voice

He said, "the time will come
When the sky will fall
And all will see the Son

Regardless of the belief
Of any man
All will bend their knees
(And praise the Son of Man)

I will come bursting
Through the clouds
On my white steed

Then my bride
I will command
To be by my side

No man knows
When this will happen
A time my Father has chose

This I will say
The end is near
Getting closer every day

Let the righteous still
Be righteous
And let the wicked
Be wicked still."

In the Heavenlies

In the Heavenlies angels fly
Gabriel delivers his message
Michael the arch angel fights
Christ reaches to His church

In this realm demons exist
They battle against all good
On a throne Satan sits
Til all the world is ruined

A place that’s war torn
Not for a cowardly heart
This place was born
At the very start

In the end the final battle
Shall be fought here
The earth will soon rattle
Saints stand without fear

War Poem

In Flanders Fields - a poem by Dr. John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Resurrection Day

It's resurrection day
The day Jesus won the victory
Over death and the grave!

**the day he arose Wal Mart wasn't there. The Christians didn't go to the local markets to buy each other a gift. The gift was from Him the day He resurrected.
Neither was a bunny or eggs in the tomb. They didn't have to hunt for anything. Jesus appeared to the Christians.
All the practices of Easter is pagan, none of it has to do with Jesus' Resurrection.

The Five Solas

Sola Scriptura- the Bible is the only inspired and authoritative Word of God. Also only source for Christian doctrine.
Sola Fida- being declared just by God, received by faith only, however faith is always evidenced, but not determined by good works.
Sola Gratia- salvation comes by divine grace. "Unmerited faith."
Solus Christus- Christ is the only mediator between God and man. Salvation is through no other than than Christ.
Soli Deo Gloria- glory is to be due to God alone. Salvation is accomplished solely through His will and action.
AMEN!!

Nightfall

When darkness draws near
Where will you be found
Does the thought cause fear
To think of the trumpet sound

When you take your last breath
Here on earth
Eternity of either rest
Or will punishment give birth

Some may deny
The Day will come
They will not try
To prepare as some

It will come as a thief
When no one expects
What reward will you reap
As the Lamb begins the test

Christ's Love For Me

God the Father sent His Son
To suffer a brutal death for me
On that day He darkened even the sun
On the cross He did bleed

No doubt I was on His mind
While on that tree
With that sarcastic sign
"King of the Jews" meant for me

An innocent man died the death
That I should have died
I should have been there instead
But it was a task only for Christ

Because of Him
I can now be free
From the penalty of sin
Christ died for me

Best Friend

I see you stepping forward to the ledge
Looking down to tempt
This life is to hard to accept
You look around and no friends

Inside you feel no hope
Forward another step
Like this you can't carry on
So this moment you have prepped

"My child I know how you feel
Please take my hand
Your passion, the world had to steal
You feel as small as a grain of sand

But one thing you've forgotten
That I'm with you always
I'm your friend
I love you more than I can count the ways"

Glory to Christ Alone

Glory to Christ alone is the meaning of Soli Deo Gloria. That's how we should live out lives! Glory to Christ alone!
