A Christmas Sonnet

Alas! The silence was broken
 The darkness was rolled away
Suddenly night was turned to day
Was this the babe of which was spoken

He lowly lay in a manger
Above Him shone an East Star
Guiding the wise men from afar
To a gift from our Creator

The babe who lay in a manger
Through toil grew to be a man
He came to fulfill His Father’s plan
This babe came to be our Savior

This was the babe that was spoken of
A Christmas story to the cross

**Though there may be some controversy over when the birth of Christ was; December 25th is the day set aside for us to celebrate the birth of our Savior. Some would say, "No one really knows the date so, how do you even know that he was born" ? I heard a story about a man who called his mom to wish her a happy birthday. He asked her, "Mom, how many does this make for you"? Her reply, "I don't know. I quit counting years ago". Surely if this could happen in a time when we record everything and in a nation that nothing can be done without a birth certificate, this could certainly happen in a time before A.D. Besides, I get asked all of the time, "How do you know that He exists"? I know that He exists because He has made a difference in my life. That's the Christmas story. He was born only to travel the road to the cross to save a wretch like me! If you don't know the true Christmas story I encourage you to find a friend that does or get to a local church and hear about this Man named Jesus. It is not about a religion, it's about a relationship. Merry Christmas everyone -Dale Griggs

The Angels Weep

The people gathered to sing “Silent Night”,
Their candle wicks were flickering,
Thoughts were racing through their minds,
That left their souls trembling,
In this small town,
Innocence was lost today,
Faces now have grim smiles,
All of their hearts are dismayed,
Angels gathered among them,
They also felt the loss and hurt,
They sang a mourning hymn,
Though they can’t be heard,
The prayers the people pray,
The angels carry to Christ,
At His feet they will lay,
The prayers as tears fill their eyes.
