Part of a Bereavement Group Part One

Death Part One

Lately we have discussed in-depth about being saints as children of God through our various classes. As saints we have many promises that we can cling to. Christ tells us that we will have trials and tribulations here on earth, but that we should have joy in Him (John 16:33). We should also remember that one purpose for His ascension was to send the Comforter (John 15:26). The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, gives us guidance, joy, and peace while going through our tribulations such as grief.

We may not realize it, but even in our grief Satan uses tools to try to tear down our defenses. This is when we should remember that, “There is no weapon formed against you shall prosper,” (Isaiah 54:17). No matter what the Serpent of Old tries, he has no hold on you as a child of God unless you allow him. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:38-39, “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

It is no secret what death is. Death is in the biblical sense a product of sin. In the beginning when God created the first man and woman in Paradise they were meant to live in communion with Him and live forever. However, man sinned and caused the Fall. This is why the Apostle Paul contrasted Adam with Christ in Romans 5:12-21. Nonetheless, the Apostle Paul also says that the whole creation groans because it is held in man’s bondage in Romans 8:22. This means that nature also longs for its end and there is often an untimely end to creation and nature because of man’s sin and bondage.

A Final Realization

Knowing that sin entered the world through the fall of man we should realize that death is ultimately God’s plan because after all He is Omniscient (All Knowing). If He is all-knowing what should we realize? We realize that death is a part of life. At some point in everyone’s life their organs get weak or they are in an untimely accident. But, the good news is this is God’s plan!

Ecclesiastes 9:2 states that sinners and believers alike share a common thing; death. Death is no respecter of persons, it comes to all persons. Again, in Romans 5:12 Paul stated that Adams sin brought sin and that sin brought death. Because of this Hebrews 9:27 states, “As it appointed unto men once to die, but after this judgement.” Yes, it hurts when someone dies, it leaves a void in our heart and lives however, we cannot take it personal. It is part of life and part of God’s plan.
